For 2012, there is a new Award - The Aylsham Show Food Hero - for an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the production or promotion of Norfolk based food or drink.

Local Food Heroes are inspirational

Over sixty nominations from across the county were received for the 2011 Food Hero Awards run by the Aylsham Agricultural Association.  Shortlisted to some 16 nominations, panels of judges set out across Norfolk on 14th June  to visit food producers, retailers, new business ventures and restaurants promoting best use of regional foods on a menu who, in the eyes of their customers, represented the very best of Norfolk’s food and drink enterprises.

Judges included representatives from category sponsors Adnams, Dewing Grain, PIC UK and BOCM Pauls in addition to four other judges with a wide range of experience from the hospitality industry and catering backgrounds.

Thanks also to the National Trust and Mortons Event Hire who have supported this Competition.

Judges reported that shortlisted candidates showed a depth of knowledge, talent and entrepreneurship which very much impressed them particularly in view of the challenging economic climate experienced by local businesses.  In the selection of category winners judges commented that the winners of individual categories showed an inspirational dedication to their chosen business.   Overall category winners will be judged for the championship sponsored by Bidwells on Tuesday 5th July with the winner being presented with the Ken Dye Memorial Salver by Mrs Sally Dye, at the Aylsham Show on Monday 29th August.
